Michael Bible and Susan Bivins, both GW MSPM ’10 alumni, have written and published Mastering Project Portfolio Management: A Systems Approach to Achieving Strategic Objectives.  The book, which is published by J. The book illustrates the entire project portfolio management (PPM) process from strategic planning through portfolio evaluation and adjustment, and follows the process model through prioritizing organizational objectives; identifying and evaluating candidate projects; selecting optimal portfolios; and evaluating performance of the portfolios.

By providing a PPM model and the infrastructure needed to support the model, this book provides a roadmap to effectively design, develop, implement and manage a tailored project portfolio process without great expense in a relatively short period of time.

This book applies a hands-on approach using real decision support software and techniques, accompanied by step-by-step illustrations to guide the reader through the process, and reinforces the material throughout using a notional example based on a real project portfolio situation while providing the reader access to the software used in order to understand and apply it.

About the authors
Michael J. Bible has twenty-five years of professional and leadership experience supporting the U.S. Department of Defense, of which the last 12 years have been dedicated to project and program management of test and evaluation programs for major defense acquisition programs.  He specializes in project management of complex technical projects and as a former owner of an engineering services firm, applied strategic planning to establish organizational direction while utilizing project portfolio management to successfully grow the company in alignment with business initiatives.

Susan S. Bivins has more than twenty-five years of management and leadership experience dedicated to delivering successful information technology, organizational change management and professional consulting services projects for major global corporations.  She specializes in project and portfolio management; international, multi-cultural and multi-company initiatives; and business strategy integration in the private and public sectors.
