Dear MSPM Students,

The top 3 items you need to know this week:

Winter 2014 Short-Term Study Abroad Program Deadline, 4 Oct

Interested in studying abroad during the winter 2014 break? The GW School of Business is offering several courses, one of which may be of particular interest to MSPM students. Professor Lisa Delpy Neirotti is leading a group to Sochi, Russia, host of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, February 7-17, 2014. The course will also include 3 on campus sessions in December and January. TSTD 6282 Russia: Behind the Scenes at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games will study how such a major event is organized. As you all are aware, project management is essential to such an event.

The study abroad programs offer a unique opportunity to complete the general elective requirements for the MSPM program. Short-term study abroad program courses must be approved by the MSPM director prior to enrollment. Schedule an advisement session with me to discuss in further detail. October 4 is the deadline to apply for the program. The Global & Experiential Education office is also available to answer questions as the program is administered through their office. Feel free to contact them at 202-994-1212 or sbintl@gwu.edu.

Teaching Award Nominations, The Teaching & Learning Collaborative

Is there a professor or GTA that has made a lasting impact on you as a student? If so, the Teaching & Learning Collaborate is accepting nominations for the Trachtenberg Prize for Teaching Excellence, the Bender Teaching Award, and the Philip J. Amsterdam Graduate Teaching Award. Nominations for all awards must be submitted via the TLC website between October 4 and November 29. Supporting materials for nominated faculty and GTAs should then be submitted to the TLC by January 17.

GW PMA Speaker Series, Jeff Toppall, 10 Oct

The GW Project Management Association (PMA) Speaker Series features project management experts and practitioners who share lessons learned from their successes and failures. The GW PMA is proud to host Jeff Toppall, PMP who will present on how critical project management skills can be learned and applied outside of your professional work environment. The event is scheduled for Thursday, October 10, 5:45-6:45pm, and will be held in Duques Hall room 453. Register in advance to attend, attendance is free and open to the GW community.
