Hiring Project Managers – UUX and Bering Straits

New positions have been posted to our job board. UUX is looking to fill two project management positions in Miami, FL with the option to live in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Bering Straits is looking for a junior to mid-level project manager for their operations in Washington, DC. Both organizations specifically reached out to our office to hire MSPM students and/or alumni.

GW Commencement Student Speaker Competition 2014

Prospective graduates can audition to be the student speaker at Commencement on the National Mall, on Sunday, May 18, 2014. The deadline to submit entries is Saturday, March 1. Additional information about the competition can be found on the Commencement website.

The 2014 schedule is now available on the Commencement website. Review the Schedule, Tickets, Accommodations, and Students tabs to answer all of your questions surrounding graduation. As of yet, we do not have information on the number of tickets each student will receive for the School of Business Celebration on Saturday, May 17.

Project Manager Positions with UUX

UUX is a new corporation that will enable operators to provide the Ultimate User eXperience over mobile and fixed networks.

UUX provides network operators with the ultimate Internet-TV-as-a-Service (iTaaS) platform.

The UUX iTaaS platform is delivered with the philosophy that initial user engagement with video often begins outside of the living room on one or more connected devices. With its unique smart phone-based user interface, iTaaS enables a new approach to discovery, control, consumption and monetization of Live and Catch-Up television and Video-on-Demand content across all Internet connected devices and screens.

UUX is looking for two project managers to run projects partnering with local cellular operators in developing countries to provide access to the UUX iTaas platform. The positions are based in Miami, FL with opportunities to also be in São Paulo, Brazil. Prefer those who have experience with mobile carriers, application development, and content delivery.  An individual comfortable in a start-up environment is key. International travel is required and knowledge of a foreign language is a plus.

Project Manager (Data Center) Position with Bering Straits

Bering Straits, a recognized leader in providing Technical and Program Management Services, Information Technology, and Logistics Services and Support, is looking for a Project Manager (Data Center) for a government project in Washington DC.

The ideal candidate manages the development and implementation process of an organization’s services involving departmental or cross-functional teams focused on the delivery of new or existing projects. Plans and directs schedules, and may monitor budget/spending. Monitors the project from initiation through delivery. organizes the interdepartmental activities ensuring completion of the project on schedule and within budget constraints. This position has overall project management responsibility. In this role, direct people management responsibility is not typically required. This position requires an understanding of WAN/LAN networking, as well as technical knowledge to support LAN-based intranet applications.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Public Trust (Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.  Accordingly, U.S. Citizenship is required.)

Spring 2014 Scholarships, 16 Dec Deadline

Scholarship funding has been made available to current MSPM students in the spring 2014 semester. We will award a total of four scholarships, each in the amount of $3,596.25. Full details of each scholarship, the eligibility criteria, and the applications are available on www.gwprojectmanagement.org. Applications must be submitted on or before 11:59pm EST December 16, 2013; we will not accept late applications.

Fall 2013 Course Feedback Surveys

As we near the end of the fall 2013 semester, the professors will begin to discuss the feedback surveys. We encourage all students to provide their open and honest feedback in these surveys so that we can improve the curriculum and faculty for the betterment of the program. The surveys are completely anonymous and will have no effect on your final grade in the course. Review the schedule for the survey release so that you may provide your feedback within the 5 day window.

Spring 2014 Scholarships Announced for Current MSPM Students – Dec 16, 2013 Deadline

Overview of scholarship guidelines:

  • Each scholarship will have two recipients, receiving $3,596.25 each
  • Must be registered for a minimum of 3 credits in the spring 2014 semester
  • Must have been enrolled in a minimum of 3 credits or on an approved Leave of Absence in the fall 2013 semester
  • Student must be in good standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Video or essay required
  • Full guidelines and eligibility criteria are included in the applications

Deadline to apply for either scholarship is December 16, 2013. Review the application in detail for the full list of guidelines, eligibility criteria, and the complete application process. Be mindful of spelling, grammar, and formatting in your essays.

Fall 2013 Course Feedback Schedule

As we near the end of the fall 2013 semester, you will be asked to complete course feedback surveys. The surveys are anonymous and are the best method for providing honest, constructive feedback on your experience in the course. The feedback is then utilized to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the course, faculty, and the program so that we may adjust the curriculum as needed.

Once made available, the surveys are open for 5 days and will not be reopened once closed. The schedule for the surveys is provided below so that you can prepare your comments.

Dear MSPM Students,

The top 3 items you need to know this week:

iTunes U Discontinued, 26 Dec

GW will discontinue the use of iTunes U for course lectures and recordings. After December 26, you will no longer be able to log in to iTunes U to view the course content. Before this date, sign in to your iTunes U course and download any material stored on iTunes U that you would like to keep for future use. A short tutorial is available on YouTube.

GW Commencement 2014

For those students who are participating in the GW commencement ceremony in May 2014 (fall 2013, spring 2014, and summer 2014 graduates), information on the event will be available at http://commencement.gwu.edu/. Although the site lists information for the 2013 event, you may gain a sense of the event schedule, maps, ticket process, etc.

The GW commencement ceremony will take place on the National Mall the morning of Sunday, May 18. The GW School of Business Celebration event for specialized masters will take place on the evening of Saturday, May 17, which is a change from 2013. Commencement weekend dates are always available from the academic calendar.

Graduation Services will provide more details to students directly once the application for graduation is submitted. For spring 2014 graduates, your applications are do to me by February 1. All fall 2013 graduates should have already submitted their graduation applications.

MSPM Student Bio Books

As a reminder, all MSPM students have access to the bio books for each incoming class on www.gwprojectmanagement.org. This is a great way to learn about your fellow classmates and also remind yourself of the people you met during your orientation.

GWSB Global & Experiential Education, Spring 2014 Short-term Study Abroad Opportunities

The deadline to submit applications for the spring 2014 short-term study abroad programs is Friday, November 22, 2013. Apply online at business.gwu.edu/global. Opportunities are available in Israel, Mexico, France, the Netherlands, and Germany. Review G&EE website or the fall newsletter for full details.
