Description: GW Veterans and VALOR Student Services present the annual GW VALOR Tailgate BBQ and Family Fun Day! New student orientation will be held at 9:30am and 10:30am in the Marvin Center. The tailgate and BBQ will start at 11:30am and run to 3:00pm on University Yard.

All VALOR Students (veterans, service members, and their families) are welcome to join together for a day of food and fun. This will also be a great time to meet other VALOR Students, network with organizations supporting veterans, and learn more about GW. New and returning students are encouraged to attend.

Call for Applications: 2015 Veterans Take Point Initiative, Aug 16 Deadline

The Atlantic Council is seeking applications for the Take Point Initiative, a fellowship program open to veterans of the United States Armed Forces who are 35 years old and younger and who currently work in, or would like to transition to, careers in international policy. The program includes opportunities to network with potential employers and funders, deepen their substantive policy expertise, and build nonprofit and thought leadership skills over the course of an intensive ten-day fellowship program in Washington, DC planned for October 13 – 23, 2015. Additionally, the Council will award over $60,000 in grant funds to Take Point fellows to support their work. In turn, fellows will commit to using their training to help provide a voice for other young veterans in the foreign policy discourse, including injured veterans.

MSPM Faculty Featured Speakers at GW DIT PPMO Project Management Symposium

Project Management Symposium

The George Washington University Division of Information Technology (IT) Project and Portfolio Management Office (PPMO) is hosting an inaugural Project Management Symposium on Monday, September 21, 2015. This is a one-day event created for the exchanging and sharing of knowledge of project management practices in higher education.


Current MSPM faculty members, Profs Young Kwak and Sam Ghosh, plus a former MSPM faculty member, Prof Denis Cioffi, are scheduled to present at the Symposium. View the selected presentations in the symposium agenda: Project Management Symposium Agenda

The fee includes admission to the conference, lunch and refreshments:

Non-GW Attendees – $85

Professional Development Units (PDUs)
Attendees with Project Management Certifications through the Project Management Institute (PMI) will be able to claim PDUs for this event. The maximum amount of PDUs available will be communicated shortly.

Fall 2015 Textbook List
The textbook list for fall 2015 courses is now available on the blog at If you have questions about the books listed and different versions available, contact the professor for the course directly to discuss.
Interested in sharing or selling your books to a classmate? Interested in buying a used book from a classmate? Post your available books or book needs on the Facebook page or LinkedIn group.

Lockers will be available to graduate students on a first-come first-serve basis in the fall 2015 semester. Lockers are located outside of the Graduate Lounge on the 5th floor of Duques Hall. Request a locker via You may begin requesting lockers on the first day of the semester, 31 Aug, at 9 a.m. EDT, no earlier. Lockers are available for $35 per semester (small) or $65 per semester (large). Payment may be made via check or money order.

Scholarships Available, 7 Aug Deadline
Scholarship funding is available for current MSPM students in the fall 2015 semester. The program will award five $4,000 scholarships to currently enrolled students. Full details on the scholarship eligibility criteria, application requirements, and deadlines are available on

Applicants are encouraged to utilize the University Writing Center or the English for Academic Purposes Program to ensure they put forth a graduate-level writing effort. Applications and/or essays received with spelling errors, poor grammar, or formatting issues receive less consideration than those that exhibit graduate-level writing.

Locker Rentals

Starting Fall 2015, the lockers outside of the Graduate Lounge on the 5th floor of Duques Hall will be made available to all GWSB graduate students. Lockers will be available on a first-come first-serve basis.

Students may begin requesting lockers on the first day of class, Monday, August 31st, 2015 at 9 a.m. via Locker rental rates are $35/term for small lockers and $65/term for large lockers. Please note that at this time we can only accept check or money orders for locker requests.
