MSPM in the KNOW: November 15, 2016

1- Congratulations Angela Knight (current MSPM student) for passing the PMP certification exam! Angela attended the PMIWDC Review Course in October. She subsequently passed her PMP credentialing exam on 1 November 2016. Congratulations!

2- Spring 2017 classes are beginning to fill up. Registration for the following classes are now closed:

  • DNSC 6252 Risk Analysis (Campus section)
  • DNSC 6235 Communication Strategies in PM (Distance section)

Few spots are still available for some MSPM courses. Register now to secure your seat. Review your plan in DegreeMAP and/or schedule an advisement session with Agnes Socrates if you are not sure what courses to take. Reminder, registration for DNSC 6269 Capstone requires completion of Registration Transaction Form (RTF). Email completed RTF to aesocrates@gwu.edu.

Fall 2016 DNSC 6269 Project Management Application (Capstone) Cancelled

Both the on campus and distance sections of DNSC 6269, Project Management Application (Capstone), with Prof. Kwak  were cancelled for the Fall 2016 term. 1 – Resources and Student Engagement

Winners to be announced this week: Free seats in PMIWDC’s PMP Prep Course! The MSPM program is pleased to offer three free registrations to the Spring 2016 PMP Prep Course. Application has closed on 29 April 2016 and we are thrilled to have received many applications. Thank you to those who applied! The program is currently reviewing applications. The three winners will be notified via email this week.

The Growth Dialogue & GW-CIBER is hosting a free event, “The Impact of Disruptive Technology.”  Special Guest Speaker: Timothy Persons, Chief Scientist, U.S. Government Accountability Office. Speaker & Moderator: Danny Leipziger, Managing Director, The Growth Dialogue; Professor of Practice of International Business, GW School of Business. Open to all students, including MSPM students. Ms. Cambria Happ has taken an Executive Director  role early this year with the GWUSB Masters Programs. While she’s happy to help during this transition, please direct your program-related questions to Agnes:

This is the best time to schedule an advisement session to talk about Summer and Fall 2016 registration with Ms. Socrates.

3 –  Residency Week and Commencement

The MSPM Spring 2016 DNSC 6269 residency week begins on Monday, May 9 and will run through Thursday, May 12. This is the time when students enrolled in Project Management Application course (Capstone) come to campus to present their projects. Capstone students demonstrate their ability to integrate their accumulated learning experience and educational knowledge as well as to produce new information by applying their skills to the creation of a project management handbook; by evaluating and suggesting improvements in specific project environments; and through a case study or by analyzing some project management practices to determine the best. All the best to Spring 2016 Capstone students!

Reminder to graduating students, the GWUSB Masters and Doctoral Celebration Commencement is on Friday, May 13. Students must report to Funger Hall Lobby by 2:15 PM. Students will line up at Funger Hall Lobby then proceed to Smith Center as a group.   See the schedule here.

The University Commencement is on Sunday, May 15. More information is posted on GWU Commencement website.

Master’s regalia can be purchased from the GW Campus Store from Wednesday, May 11, through graduation day.

Spring 2016 Registration Now Open
Registration for spring 2016 classes began yesterday, 9 Nov. If you have not done so, register for spring classes to ensure a seat in the courses you need to graduate. Not sure which classes to take? Review your plan in DegreeMAP and/or schedule an advisement session with me.

Registration in DNSC 6269 PM Application is not available via GWeb. To register, complete and submit a Registration Transaction Form to my attention via email, fax, or in person (Duques 550). The professor’s signature is not required, but you will need to enter all details for the course per the Schedule of Classes. Incomplete forms will be returned. Those in the DE section are required to participate in the residency week in DC May 9-13.

Tentative Summer 2016 Schedule
The summer 2016 schedule will be released by early March. The program plans to offer only electives this coming summer. The project management-focused elective offerings are:

  • DNSC 6290 Project Governance, Dr. Ghosh, 1.5 credit hours, 16 May-25 Jun
  • DNSC 6290 Project Management Methodologies, Dr. Khamooshi, 1.5 credit hours, 16 May-25 Jun

Alumni roundtables will be held Monday, 9 Nov, from 6-8:30 p.m. in the City View Room at 1957 E St, NW. Register to attend this event and network with prominent GW alumni. Who knows, you may find your next employer at the event! Event begins with a cocktail reception followed by two roundtable discussions. Attire is business formal, strict dress code is fully enforced. Register to secure a limited number of seats.

  • Click on “Student Record and Registration” folder
  • Next, click on “Student Records Information Menu”
  • Finally, click on “View Administrative Holds”

The spring 2016 schedule of classes is now available. Review the schedule and confirm your courses for spring 2016 using your plan in DegreeMAP. Questions? Schedule an advisement session with Cambria Happ via www.meetme.so/gwmspm. Registration begins Monday, 9 Nov, via GWeb.
Registration in DNSC 6269 Project Management Application (capstone) is not available via GWeb. Blackboard Collaborate schedule for spring 2016 online/distance classes available on the blog. The Collaborate sessions are designed for the online students to provide real-time interaction with the professor.

Seeking Candidates for the GW PMA Board
The GW Project Management Association (PMA) is calling for interested individuals to self-nominate to serve on the board. If you are interested, complete the nomination survey no later than 5 pm EDT today, 30 Oct. Details on each board position are available on the blog.

Spring 2015 Registration Opens 10 Nov
Spring registration opens Monday, 10 Nov, via GWeb. GWeb registration is available 7am-10pm EST during the registration period. Confirm your plan in DegreeMAP and register accordingly to secure a seat in the desired course and section for next term.

To register in DNSC 6269 PM Application (capstone), you must complete and submit a Registration Transaction Form to my attention via email, fax, or in person. You cannot register via GWeb for DNSC 6269.
If you have a hold on your account for any reason, you will be prevented from registering for courses. A hold can only be removed by the office that placed it. The hold screen will tell you the source of the hold, whether financial, probation, etc.
