About the Event.  Successful project managers have exceptional communications skills. According to the Project Management Institute, project managers spend 90% of their time communicating. Poor communications are blamed as the primary source of failure for 30% of projects. “Developing Emotional Intelligence” is the second installment in the webinar series for GWU’s Masters of Project Management Program. In his first presentation “The Power of Communication,” Alan Zucker presented several important models and best practices for effective project communication. In this webinar, Mr. Zucker dives into the topic of emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is a key component of project communication and a critical skill for project managers.

The ability to effectively handle and understand people was cited as an important characteristic for successful project managers. Individuals and teams with high EI are both more productive and more likely to be successful. Emotional intelligence is our ability to understand ourselves and others. People with high emotional intelligence harness this understanding to constructively guide their behaviors and actions. Emotional intelligence is a skill that can be learned. Webinar participants will have the opportunity to measure their own emotional intelligence using an assessment developed for the Harvard Business Review. We will review the factors of EI and understand how they affect our projects and teams. Participants will be presented with an action plan and tangible next steps for developing their emotional intelligence skills.
