Spring 2016 Registration Now Open
Registration for spring 2016 classes began yesterday, 9 Nov. If you have not done so, register for spring classes to ensure a seat in the courses you need to graduate. Not sure which classes to take? Review your plan in DegreeMAP and/or schedule an advisement session with me.

Registration in DNSC 6269 PM Application is not available via GWeb. To register, complete and submit a Registration Transaction Form to my attention via email, fax, or in person (Duques 550). The professor’s signature is not required, but you will need to enter all details for the course per the Schedule of Classes. Incomplete forms will be returned. Those in the DE section are required to participate in the residency week in DC May 9-13.

Tentative Summer 2016 Schedule
The summer 2016 schedule will be released by early March. The program plans to offer only electives this coming summer. The project management-focused elective offerings are:

  • DNSC 6290 Project Governance, Dr. Ghosh, 1.5 credit hours, 16 May-25 Jun
  • DNSC 6290 Project Management Methodologies, Dr. Khamooshi, 1.5 credit hours, 16 May-25 Jun

Last Day to Withdraw from Summer Session 1 Courses, 13 Jun

Today, 13 Jun, is the last day to withdraw from a course with a grade of “W” using a Registration Transaction Form for Summer Session 1. Visit the Office of the Registrar site for full details and for information on refunds.

GW University Writing Center Open During Summer 2014

Thanks to funding from the Office of Online Learning and Academic Innovation, the Writing Center will be open during the summer 2014 semester, 5 Jun – 14 Aug. The Writing Center will focus primarily on students enrolled in online courses. Appointments may be scheduled up to 7 days in advance using their online system. Visit https://gwu.mywconline.com to schedule an appointment.

The Writing Center is an excellent resource to refine your writing skills and to work with an advisor on written assignments for your summer courses, prior to submitting for a grade. I encourage each of you to utilize all of the resources made available to you as a graduate student at GW.

Fall Internship Available for the Executive Office of the President

The Executive Office of the President is now hiring interns for their PMO and CIO offices for the fall 2014 semester. The MSPM program was made aware of this opportunity through our connection to Benjamin Kim, Branch Chief of IT Program Management. Some of you may have met him in Dr. Jain’s course this past spring.

The job posting was opened yesterday on USAJobs.gov and will close on Thursday, 10 Jul. Interested parties should apply online via USAJobs.gov.

Important Registration Deadlines

Friday, 7 Feb, is the last day to add a course to your spring 2014 schedule. It is also the last day to drop a course without academic penalty. Submit a Registration Transaction Form to take either action. Consult the Office of the Registrar site for details on the refund schedule.

Friday, 7 Mar, is the last day to withdraw from a course with a grade of ‘W’ using a Registration Transaction Form.  Financial penalties will apply.

Registration for the summer 2014 term will open for all students on Monday, 3 Mar. Registration for the fall 2014 will open Thursday, 20 Mar. Schedule an advisement session with me via www.meetme.so/gwmspm to confirm your plans for the summer and fall terms.

Summer 2014 MSPM Elective – Project Governance

In addition to several core classes, we will offer a 1.5 credit elective during summer session I – DNSC 6290 Project Governance (19 May-28 Jun). The course, taught by Dr. Sam Ghosh, is 6 weeks in length and will cover models, practices, and case studies for project governance. An executive summary of the elective is available on www.gwprojectmanagement.org. This class will also be open to non-MSPM students. If you are interested in the course, register within the first week of summer registration to ensure a seat.

GW Summer English for Academic Purposes

International students looking to strengthen their academic writing, research, and communication skills are invited to enroll in summer English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses. This program is open to incoming students, as well as current international students. Class sessions are scheduled 7 Jul through 15 Aug and are on campus in Washington, DC.

Please note that these courses/credits do not count toward your MSPM degree requirements. Tuition and fees will apply; $4,200 for one 3-credit EAP course. Participants in the courses will include those who scored above and below the TOEFL requirements. Spring 2014 Registration Tips

Registration for the spring semester began on Monday, 4 Nov. Below are tips on registration:

– If you are not able to locate a project management elective in GWeb, be sure to look under the “Special Topics” heading within the DNSC course listings.

– If you have an academic hold or financial hold on your account, you will not be able to register. For academic holds, schedule an advisement session with me via www.meetme.so/gwmspm to discuss. For financial holds, contact the Student Accounts Office to discuss.

– If you are registering for DNSC 6269 PM Applications (capstone), you cannot do so via GWeb. You must submit a Registration Transaction Form to me for approval and processing. The form must be complete with all details provided, including the correct CRN and section.

– Review your plans in DegreeMAP to ensure that they are up-to-date. Questions regarding changes to your plan may be addressed in an advisement session.

– The summer 2014 schedule will be made available towards the end of March.

2014 PMI Research & Education Conference

PMI is currently accepting paper submissions for their 2014 Research & Education Conference. Submissions are due by 13 Jan 2014. The conference is scheduled for 26-27 Jul 2014 in Portland, Oregon. Registration will open in March 2014. They welcome conceptual, empirical or theoretical work using project, program, or portfolio management as the subject or context of the research. Faculty and students are encouraged to participate.
