MSPM in the KNOW: September 19, 2017

1- GWU MSPM Student, Robert Estes, key member of a weather satellite team. Robert Estes will participate in the launch of a Joint Polar Satellite System-1 (JPSS-1) on 10 November. The launch will be held at the Space Launch Complex-2 at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. The JPSS-1 is a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather satellite that supports accurate numeral weather forecasts. A long-time NASA project manager, Mr. Estes is responsible for project costs, schedules, technical performance and management of the critical JPSS-1 CERES (Clouds and the Earth’s Radiant Energy System) component. He was instrumental in initiating the contract with aerospace/defense firm Northrop Grumman to build CERES. Read more.

3- Free campus event: Scaling Agile within the Federal Government. Join us for the next PMIWDC Circle Luncheon event on 27 September at GWU campus. Guest speaker, Efrain Velasquez, will discuss how changes in the Federal Government’s acquisition and contracting processes increase pressure to be “more Agile.” Mr. Velasquez will provide a high-level description of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) for Lean Enterprises, discuss its applicability to Federal technology projects, and identify the roles PMs can play within the framework.
