Top 3 for 14 Jan

Access to Software
All MSPM students, including the new spring 2015 students, have access to DreamSpark where they can download key Microsoft software (Office excluded). Instructions on downloading software from DreamSpark are available on the blog (uses same password as bio books). If you are accessing DreamSpark for the first time, you will need to register/create an account using your @gwmail.gwu.edu email address. If you run into any issues, contact Sami Nagi at sami@gwu.edu.

Students may also download VM Fusion, helpful if using a Mac. As a reminder, Microsoft does not offer a Mac version of Project. VM Fusion simulates a Windows environment to run Project.

Those interested in purchasing other software packages at an educational discount, visit JourneyEd. Additional free software downloads are available from the GW Division of IT and through the Virtual Computer Lab. Your professors will tell you what software is required in each course.

• Religious Observances and Holidays
GW’s policy regarding accommodations for religious holidays may be found on the Office of the Provost website. This is a reminder that students must notify faculty during the first week of the semester of their intention to be absent from class on their day(s) of religious observance. We are currently in the first week of the spring 2015 semester.

Academic Probation and GPA Requirements
GW’s general requirements, including information on grades and computing GPA, appears under University Regulations in the Bulletin. Details on academic probation, grades of F, suspension, and incompletes are available under the School of Business section in the Bulletin. Each student is required to be familiar with these requirements and regulations. If you have questions about your academic standing, schedule an advisement session with me to discuss.

Courses Not Available in Blackboard?
GW Graduate Student Welcome Ceremony 2014
Software and Textbooks

Dear MSPM students,

Welcome back! And a special welcome to our almost 40 new students beginning this fall! I encourage everyone to reacquaint themselves with their classmates, professors, and the academic technology for the program. A plethora of resources and information are available via my.gwu.edu, the Office of the Registrar website, and through the MSPM blog.

The fall semester begins on Monday, 25 Aug. Late registration fees will apply beginning on Monday. Courses dropped after Sunday, 24 Aug, are subject to the withdrawal and refund schedule.

The top 3 items you need to know this week:

Course Not Available in Blackboard?

Curious as to why your courses may not yet appear in Blackboard even though you confirmed your registration in GWeb Info Systems? Chances are the professor has not yet activated the course in Blackboard. Rest assured that your course will be activated by the first day of class. For example, the first on-campus lecture for DNSC 6202 Statistics for Managers is on Tuesday, 26 Aug. Prof Khamooshi may not activate the course in Blackboard until that day.

The professors will provide details on the Blackboard Collaborate schedule in their syllabus. The schedule is also available on our blog. The Collaborate sessions are oriented for the online students, not the on-campus students.

GW Graduate Student Welcome Ceremony 2014

All newly admitted graduate students at GW are invited to the university-wide Graduate Student Welcome Ceremony, Graduate Student Services Fair, and Graduate Student Welcome Reception. Events will take place tomorrow, 21 Aug, 2:30-7 pm on the Foggy Bottom campus.

Software and Textbooks

Visit DreamSpark to download key Microsoft software in preparation for the fall semester. As a reminder, Microsoft does not offer a Mac version of Project. VM Fusion is available for Mac users to simulate a Windows environment, however access to or usage of a PC is advised for MSPM students. Instructions on downloading software from DreamSpark and/or VM Fusion is available on the blog. If you are accessing DreamSpark for the first time, you will need to register using your @gwmail.gwu.edu email address. If you run into issues, contact Sami Nagi at sami@gwu.edu.

For those interested in purchasing other software packages at an educational discount, visit JourneyEd. Additional software downloads are available from the GW Division of IT and also through the Virtual Computer Lab.

If you have not yet ordered your textbooks, do so immediately. We would love to get your feedback on the usage of ebooks in the program. Does anyone have experience using ebooks for the MSPM courses? Would you be willing to share you feedback via LinkedIn? Visit the George Washington University MSPM Student and Alumni Networking Group on LinkedIn to join the discussion.
