1 More Volunteer Needed for Fall Orientation

Dear MSPM students,

The top 3 items you need to know this week:

Need-Based Scholarship Deadline, 24 Jul

Thursday, 24 Jul, is the deadline to apply for the need-based scholarships available for the fall 2014 semester. Details on the criteria and application process are available on the blog at www.gwprojectmanagement.org.

Essays received with spelling errors, poor grammar, or formatting issues receive less consideration than those that exhibit graduate-level writing. Take full advantage of the GW resources that your tuition payments fund, such as the GW Writing Center or the English for Academic Purposes Program.

Graduate Fellow Position, GW Military and Veteran Career Services

The Interdisciplinary Career Services Initiatives office within the GW Center for Career Services is looking to fill their Graduate Fellow for Interdisciplinary Initiatives position for the 2014-2015 academic year. The fellow will participate as a member of the team charged with advancing career services and resources for military-related students including current service, veterans and military families.

Fellow is paid an hourly rate and is expected to work 20-25 hours per week. Must be a current GW graduate student that is either a veteran, active duty service member, or dependent to fill the position. To apply, submit cover letter and resume to Marva Gumbs Jennings, Managing Director, Interdisciplinary Initiatives with subject line: Grad Fellow-Military and Veteran Career Services to mgumbs@gwu.edu.

New & Improved Financial Aid Website

GW’s Office of Student Financial Assistance launched their recently redesigned website. The site should be more user friendly with informative and intuitive navigation. When reviewing information under the “Getting Assistance” and “Assistance Types” sections, be sure to confirm that you select the “Graduate” tab. The Office of Student Financial Assistance has also put together a helpful one-pager on the federal and private alternative loan process.

If you are awaiting financial aid before registering for the fall semester, please be sure to comply with all deadlines to keep the process moving. If you have questions on your course options for the fall, schedule an advisement session with me via www.meetme.so/gwmspm. Dear MSPM Students,

I hope everyone is enjoying their first week of classes. Below are 3 additional items you need to know this week:

Volunteers Needed to Recruit Students at PMIWDC PM Symposium, Sep 13

The MSPM program is a premium sponsor of the PMIWDC Chapter’s Project Management Symposium on Friday, September 13. This annual event, held in Crystal City (Arlington), VA, provides a forum focused on professional development and networking for project managers. I am looking for two students to assist in student recruitment at the event. If you are interested, you will need to commit to assist in the exhibit booth from either 8am-12pm or 12-5pm. This volunteer opportunity also includes free registration to the event (and lunch). During the half of the day you are not in the booth, you are free to attend the educational sessions.

Interested in volunteering? Email me at chapp@gwu.edu to provide your preference of the two time slots.

Disability Support Services

Disability Support Services is committed to insuring all students with disabilities have equal access to educational opportunities. They also serve as consultants to others who may suspect their participation in an academic program is being compromised by a disability. Students with a documented disability may choose to seek access to needed accommodations through Disability Support Services by completing the registration process detailed on their website.

Students who suspect they may have a disability or are referred by a faculty member or other person with similar concerns are encouraged to set up an appointment with the Associate Director of Disability Support Services for a consultation.

Religious Holidays

GW’s policy regarding the accommodation of religiously observant students and faculty may be found on the Office of the Registrar site. This is a reminder that students must notify faculty during the first week of the semester of their intention to be absent from class on their day(s) of religious observance. Please discuss this item with your professor before the end of this week.
