Friday, 31 Jul, is the last day to withdraw from a course with a grade of “W” using a Registration Transaction Form for Summer Session 2 classes. If you need to make a change in your schedule, plan ahead and take action before the deadline. Review the refund schedule to determine the refund amount.

• Free Registration to 2015 Federal Project Delivery Symposium, 18-20 Aug
The MSPM program is pleased to offer one full registration to the DBIA/SAME 2015 Federal Project Delivery Symposium at the Omni Shoreham in Washington, DC on 18-20 Aug. The event features education sessions on the full spectrum of federal project types with a focus on design-build best practices and contracting methodology. Interested in attending? Contact Matthew Nessan at mmnessan@gwu.edu regarding your interest and availability. The selected student will be asked to assist in the MSPM exhibit booth on 18-19 Aug. Please note this offer does not include travel, lodging, or any other conference related expenses.

• Summer Session 2 Begins 6 Jul
Summer Session 2 begins Monday, 6 Jul. You still have time to register in DNSC 6259 Project Portfolio Mgt or an approved elective course. Sunday, 12 Jul, is the last day to add or drop summer session 2 courses via GWeb.

GW Writing Center Open During Summer
The University Writing Center is open this summer, from 3 Jun-13 Aug. The center provides services to both on-campus and online students. Writing consultants are available for 25- and 50-minute sessions free of charge. Appointments can be made online via gwu.mywconline.com.

Megaprojects, 3rd International Workshop Held 4 Jun, Recording Available
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Megaprojects: Theory Meets Practice, 3rd International Workshop on 4 Jun. The event drew in attendees and speakers from not only the United States, but South Korea, the United Kingdom, and beyond.

MSPM Students Study Abroad in Summer 2015
Several MSPM students are using their elective credits to study abroad this summer. Four students just returned from Cork, Ireland where they studied international and multicultural issues in organizations. Another student is learning about the globalization of American sports, entertainment, and business in China.

Megaprojects, 4 Jun, Limited Number of Free Registrations for MSPM Students
The MSPM program is pleased to offer a limited number of free registrations to the 4 Jun Megaprojects: Theory Meets Practice, 3rd International Workshop. The event features international and domestic speakers from government, industry, and academia. All registration requests must be received no later than Monday, 1 Jun, at 9 a.m. EDT. Preregistration required, onsite registrations will not be accommodated.

• Applying Lessons from the PMBOK to the Real World, 27 May
The MSPM program is proud to host the PMIWDC Washington Circle Luncheon on Wednesday, 27 May, 12-1 p.m. Tomorrow’s topic is “Applying Lessons from the PMBOK Guide to the Real World” with speaker Mark Tolbert, PMP. The brown bag event (bring your lunch) is free to attend and is held in Duques Hall, room 453. Register online at www.pmiwdc.org.

Last Day to Add Summer Session 1 Class, 29 May
Friday, 29 May, is the last day to add a class for Summer Session 1 using a Registration Transaction Form.

Yesterday, 25 May, was the last day to drop a course in Summer Session 1. The last day to withdraw from a Summer Session 1 class with a grade of W is Friday, 12 Jun. Assess your situation and take action early. Each student is responsible for understanding the add/drop/withdraw schedule and for managing themselves accordingly.

Summer 2015 Short-Term Study Abroad Application Deadline, 16 Feb
The deadline to apply for the summer 2015 programs has been extended to Monday, 16 Feb. GWSB is offering five faculty-led programs and six short-term exchanges. Full details are available online. You can also learn more about each program by watching the recorded info session from 28 Jan. If you have questions, contact sbintl@gwu.edu. All study abroad programs must receive MSPM advisor approval before applying.

• AFCEA Educational Foundation Scholarships
The AFCEA Educational Foundation awards multiple scholarships annually. The graduate-level scholarships are open to those currently enrolled in their second semester with at least two semester-equivalent courses per term. A current overall GPA of 3.0 or higher is required. Visit the AFCEA site for more information and to apply. Contact AFCEA directly with questions.

Spring Career & Internship Fair, 11 Feb
This fair provides opportunities for students and alumni to meet with employers from a variety of industries recruiting for full-time, part-time, and internship positions. More than 100 organizations will be on site. Log in to GWorkSB to RSVP for the fair and learn about the employers and positions available.

While in GWorkSB, review the list of upcoming workshops, employer information sessions, and on-campus recruiting events.

Need-Based Scholarship Deadline is Tomorrow, 24 Jul

Tomorrow is the deadline to apply for the need-based scholarships available for the fall 2014 semester. Full details on scholarship criteria and application process available on the blog at www.gwprojectmanagement.org. Applicants who do not follow the application guidelines will not be considered.

MS in Project Management Orientation Student & Alumni Reception, 15 Aug

The GW MS in Project Management Alumni Network cordially invites alumni and current students to connect at the program’s fall orientation. This will be a great opportunity to welcome the incoming class of MSPM students.

Hors d’ouevres, beer and wine will be served. While there is no charge to attend the event, registration is requested. Event will be held from 6:30 to 8 pm on Friday, 15 Aug, in Duques Hall, 6th floor.

GW University Writing Center Open During Summer 2014

Thanks to funding from the Office of Online Learning and Academic Innovation, the Writing Center will be open during the summer 2014 semester, 5 Jun – 14 Aug. The Writing Center will focus primarily on students enrolled in online courses. Appointments may be scheduled up to 7 days in advance using their online system. Visit https://gwu.mywconline.com to schedule an appointment.

The Writing Center is an excellent resource to refine your writing skills and to work with an advisor on written assignments for your summer courses, prior to submitting for a grade. I encourage each of you to utilize all of the resources made available to you as a graduate student at GW.

Fall Internship Available for the Executive Office of the President

The Executive Office of the President is now hiring interns for their PMO and CIO offices for the fall 2014 semester. The MSPM program was made aware of this opportunity through our connection to Benjamin Kim, Branch Chief of IT Program Management. Some of you may have met him in Dr. Jain’s course this past spring.
